ABOUT JTGAR & OUR MISSION

WHO ARE WE?

The Joshua Tree Gateway Association of REALTORS® is the REALTOR® Organization for the San Bernardino County high-desert area known as the Morongo Basin and/or the Joshua Tree Gateway Communities because of its proximity to the Joshua Tree National Park. This area includes the communities of the City of Twentynine Palms, the Town of Yucca Valley, Pioneertown, Joshua Tree, Landers and Morongo Valley.

The JTGAR operates under the authority of the California Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS® a 501(c)6 not-for-profit organization.

The membership is comprised of Brokers, real estate agents and appraisers. The Board also has affiliate members comprised of associated businesses. The JTGAR is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board Directors are elected annually by the membership. Day to day operations are conducted and administrated by the Executive Officer.

The Joshua Tree Gateway Association of REALTORS® provides Multiple Listings Service, sales and marketing supplies for Brokers and REALTORS® and also an informational/educational resource center for REALTOR® members.

ASSOCIATION HISTORY

There has been real estate activity in the Morongo Basin since the 1920’s, if not before. Organized real estate began with the California Real Estate Association recognizing the 29 Palms Realty Board on December 1, 1946. It encompassed the entire Morongo Basin to include Morongo Valley on November 20, 1949.

The 29 Palms Realty Board released Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley and Morongo Valley to the new Pioneer Desert Board of Realtors located in Yucca Valley on May 21, 1955.The Pioneer Board was renamed the Yucca Valley Board of Realtors and on November 8, 1955, the 29 Palms Realty Board was renamed the 29 Palms Board of REALTORS®.

The Joshua Tree Board of REALTORS® was formed on January 23, 1962. In the 1990’s, the California Association of REALTORS® established minimum criteria for the boards to provide to their members, which resulted in the dissolution of the Joshua Tree Board of REALTORS® in 1995, after which its members joined the Yucca Valley Board of REALTORS®. On January 1, 1996, the Yucca Valley Board of REALTORS® was renamed the Desert Communities Association of REALTORS®. On December 31, 1995, the 29 Palms Board of REALTORS®dissolved and its members joined the Desert Communities Association of REALTORS®, creating a strong, all-area-inclusive association for the real estate professionals of the Morongo Basin.

In mid to late 2014, it was decided by the Board of Directors and the Membership alike that the name "Desert Communities Association of REALTORS®" no longer differentiated our organization from the others around it, with increasing associations using the word "desert" and the lack of distinction regarding which desert or which communities we represent, it was decided to change the association's moniker to something that geographically represents our market with far greater recognition and accuracy.  Thus, the Joshua Tree Gateway Association of REALTORS® was approved in March of 2015.

Organized real estate has been providing service to the citizens of the Morongo Basin for over 60 years, and we are looking forward and preparing for the next 60.
